Small and Loud Scratch Night
The Channel, Arts Centre Melbourne
Last Wednesday of every month
Small and Loud is Melbourne's ‘scratch night’ for live performance. It is a space for artists to test their freshest ideas; new works in development that need an audience and some robust kindness.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
We take submissions from Melbourne-based artists once every three months. We then arrange these submissions into monthly events, which are held on the last Wednesday of each month, at The Channel, Arts Centre Melbourne.
Our focus is on theatre and live performance, but we’re always interested in work that straddles disciplines. We’re pro-straddle.
Each event will be curated with the aim of bringing artists together who might inform each other’s work. There will be 3-6 presentations at each event, which will range from 10-20 minutes in length.
As this space is a testing ground we will be exploring a variety of ways for audiences to provide feedback both during and after the performances.
We are pro artist payment. There will be a pay-what-you-can entry fee with all proceeds going to those who have performed that night.
WHO ARE WE?
Small and Loud was founded by myself and Liv Satchell. We are both writer/directors and between us we have 10 years of producing experience. We have now handed the directorship of the Melbourne program to Bella Vadiveloo and Bonnie Leigh-Dodds. We're thrilled to have two such brilliant and capable women at the helm.
Whilst Bella and Bonnie continue to grow and develop the Melbourne program, Liv and I are thinking about what else Small and Loud could be, both in Melbourne and further afield. Get in touch if you have any ideas for us!
